Melissa Nepton at Montreal Fashion Week
Formal goes sexy..! With Melissa Nepton and her Fall 2013 collection. The fitted body hugging dresses were meant to show a woman’s shape without the fabric riding up, while the fitted textured blazers gave an empowering feel to the term “business attire”. Certain fluidity is detected in her collection as she managed to find the balance of structure and deconstruction at the same time. A Tom Boyish feel was added when the models strutted in bootlegged pants and open cape cardigans but it only enhanced the feeling of over powering sexuality that seem to sweep the runaway. It is rare to be excited about colors such as white black and grey, but Melissa Nepton made it seem so effortless.

Pedram Karimi showcased his 3rd collection at his debut of Montreal Fashion Week fall 2013. His collection, inspired by “nostalgia carried on to the future, familiar yet not fully so” was nothing short of familiar and nothing more. His collection looked more like various structured clothing pieces styled to be layered with each other. Rich fabrics made up the turtle necks, shorts, basic and cropped jackets to be layered with leggings, crop pants and platform shoes. Yes the very ones 90’s pop band “spice girls” were famous for. Nothing stood out or made this collection impressive. For a designer who was born in Iran, grew up in Austria and combined the fashion education from London and Montreal, this collection was flat, expressionless and lacked creativity.
Overall a disappointment.
