Think of Martin Lim and the word STYLE comes to mind. It would be the only way to describe the effortless 60’s meets geometric shapes collection we saw this passed week. Sticking with classic colors such as tan, white, black, grey and an electric blue in each piece was continuous; well put together. And let not forget the outburst of fuchsia and final dresses.

Sometimes simplicity is key, but very few designers can nail simple with style and sleek with elegance to give a high fashion finish. This is precisely what this collection was able to accomplish. It should come as no surprise that Danielle MARTIN & Pao LIM are designers who take their international experience and artfully present in their clothing. Seems this seasons theme is “fashion meets graphic arts” and very few designers have been able to achieve that; Martin Lim being one of them.

POP! There goes color! And that is what we saw with Symbiose by Hinda A this year at MFW. Keeping in the cool color wheel with pinks, purples, and blues…. we saw tunics/ leggings and dresses styled with leggings to give a dash of seventies and an image of Pop art. Other than that there wasn’t a wow factor. The elements were all there- fabrics, colors, style… but somehow nothing stood out or made the collection memorable. Given the fact that the collection was inspired by Milton Glaser, a legendary graphic artist, there is pressure to find the perfect combination of art with fashion. This is the industry ….and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations.

Usually when a designer is presenting in collaboration with Elle Quebec, it is something to watch. When it is Nadya Toto it is a MUST SEE. And true to word we weren’t disappointed. Chic is an understatement to the sensual feel Nadya gives to a feminine silhouette. Every piece whether it be a slightly exaggerated version of a leather peplum blouse and floral body, wide scarves with an embroidery motif on pencil skirts, A-line dresses or long flowing ones the textiles, beautiful cobalt blue, wine / blood reds with the perfect punch of floral and embellishments gave feminine edge a new dimension. You weren’t watching a runaway show with models strutting, but were introduced to an army of women portraying what is like to own their femininity in a sensual yet elegant manner.
Definitely refined.
